Our current and past projects

The following are projects selected to be showcased. However, each project may host one or more sub-projects.

Power Utility Monitoring (active)

Current transformers, data logging and panel components

From 2022 until now, we have been involved in various installations of sensors for our national power utility systems. This included PMUs, PPUs and also PEs also. These projects range from down-to-the-detail current transformers for trip coil monitoring in switchgears, down to logging data from panel assets including RMUs, feeder panels, transformers, LVDBs, and so on. Medical devices (active)

Non-invasive diagnostics.

This device was produced for collecting data from patients in UMMC, Kuala Lumpur and to non-invasively detect dengue. Press the probe to your forearm, and voila! Among others. (W = 6)

PEM fuel cells (active)

Beginning research in hydrogen generation

We are currently working at a deeper understanding of PEM fuel cells, as a precursor to working on fundamental research in photolyzers to generate green hydrogen. While it is currently ongoing, we have obtained a technical competence on how the technology works, and will embark on more R&D in this field, in line with the Malaysian HETR. (W = 1)

PCB fabrication (active)

Customized electronics

We also have made various custom printed circuit boards. Covering from applications in the substation industry, medical device prototypes, to biomedical appliances. (W = 5)

IoT security systems (2023)

An RFID door lock system, controlled via web, fully developed head to toe.

A prototype IoT door lock system was developed from scratch in this project, executed between 2022 to mid 2023. It was our foray into IoT based systems, and we engaged several talents to be able to pull this off. It is built with complete understanding of the parts down to the component level, from microcontrollers to the web based interface, while having a sleek design for demonstration purposes. (W = 3)

Microfluidics systems (2021)

Dengue sensing on a chip!

This project was a combination of many disciplines. Basically, this device detects dengue by analyzing blood serum from a patient, which takes around 45 minutes. This is done with high sensitivity, due to the specific nature of the detection. Concluded in 2021. (W = 4)

TM node beeper (2017)

Enter text on a touchscreen, and a switch beeps!

We executed a switch identifier project. In a maze of various switches and servers, it can be quite daunting to find it even with proper documentation of the layout. If an asset of concern (say, a switch or router) needed finding, one could just enter the text of the serial number of the asset, click a button, and the device attached to it would beep. (W = 2)

Fiber optics sensing (2012)

Structural Health Monitoring.

We have intimate knowledge of optoelectronics systems, including on building custom fiber optics sensing systems. Our field work included the use of these sensors in bridges and high-stress structures. Also, we built custom-made fiber Bragg grating (FBG) interrogators. (W = 2)

Note: To aid the viewer's perspective, we added weightage W, followed by a number, which states the estimated number of sub-projects within it.

Usually, one project has several major facets which need to be dealt with separately from the others before they converge as a single. A medical device generally has the most facets due to the multidisciplinary aspects, including embedded programming, electronics, optical alignment, prototyping design and aesthetics, and also interface programming, hence, W = 6.

This highlights that the entries presented are all significant, though not equally so, and that each is distinct.
